TUITION FEES Lessons are currently charged at £20 per hour at Harrow Road. (See map on 'Contact Me' page) or I can come to you within a 10 mile radius for £25 per hour. For new students I offer the first lesson for half price.
LESSON FEQUENCY/DURATION Frequency of lessons depends on the individual student. I'm not particularly in favour of signing you up for a whole term of weekly lessons as good as that might be business wise. I prefer to work it out as we go. For complete beginners and smaller children weekly lessons are a good idea. As your proficiency grows, fortnightly or monthly is probably more appropriate. Extra lessons before exams are always a good idea. I am fairly relaxed about lesson duration. One hour sessions are usually appropriate but half hour may be better for the very young. I don't pack the day that tight so there is no rush if we need a few extra minutes (I do require reasonable punctuality of course).
THEORY It doesn't have to be dreary!! Ok so it's not the most exciting subject for a seven year old budding rock star but I am a firm believer in the importance of a grounding in music theory. It is, of course, a requirement if you are going to take Grade Exams. However it is up to you, there are plenty of very talented musicians out there who only have the most rudimentary theory knowledge and they are earning far more than me! I'm happy to provide theory guidance if you should require it - and I'll try to make it interesting.
GRADE EXAMS I am happy to enter you for practical and theory Grade Exams if you wish to go down that route. The ABRSM is excellent for Classical and Jazz qualifications, the RGT exams are better for pop/rock musicians.
PAYMENT Preferably cash, cheque or online bank transfer but you can pay via my paypal account if you really can't manage the alternatives. Let me know what is best for you and I'll send an email with the relevant details. Payment is in advance either at the end of the previous lesson or, sometimes, particularly when parents are paying for children, it is more convienient to prepay for a number of lessons eg: Half a term (6 Lessons) or a whole term (12 Lessons).
